A Wrinkle in Time: Unexpectedly Dark… but Sweet

A Wrinkle in Time
Written by Madeleine L’Engle
First Published January 1, 1962

I saw this title ages ago in a list of most loved children’s books. Since then, I had this desire to read it. I downloaded the ebook and saved it in my phone. But this thing called life didn’t allow me to to read it immediately.

But one fateful day while I was on a trip inside a thrift bookstore, I found a copy of this book! And whoa was it a thin book?! When I bought it I promised myself to read and finish it.

And yes of course I did 🙂

“A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high-school-aged girl who is transported on an adventure through time and space with her younger brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin O’Keefe to rescue her father, a gifted scientist, from the evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet.” – SparkNotes

The Night Circus: It has arrived, without a warning.

The Night Circus
Written by Erin Morgenstern
First Published 2011

“The circus arrives without a warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. It is called Le Cirque des Reves, and it is only open at night.

Behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway — a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which one can only be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love — a deep, magical love that makes the light flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.”

This book is brilliant. I dare not to write a summary of my own because the book’s official one (stated above) was good enough for me that it pulled me strongly into its own magic. I love this book and I might continue loving it in almost the same way that I do for Harry Potter. For many years, after reading so many fantasy novels, this one had just been a favorite.

This is a review and may contain some minor spoilers, you’ve been warned.

Everyday: If you’re going to be a different person, who would you like to be?

Everyday
Written by David Levithan

Waking up in the morning inside a body of a different person is one huge thing. But waking up in a different body everyday is another. It may be creepy, peculiar and undoubtedly freaky for one person but for A, it’s nothing. It happens everyday and it doesn’t surprise him. It’s his life, actually.

Everyday by David Levithan is the story of A (yes, that’s his name, A), his adventures as he wakes up every morning in the body of a different person, living each day as a guest individual. It was okay for him until he fell in love with one girl.

The Book Thief: Here is a Small Fact – You Are Going to Die

The Book Thief
Written by Markus Zusak
Published 2005

Liesel Meminger knew death at a very early age, when her younger brother died sleeping in front of her, in a train, on a snowy night. Liesel also got to know abandonment at that early age, when her mother left her to be taken cared of by strangers, her foster parents.

But that didn’t make her hate life, because she got to have a loving family, a dear friend, a partner, and of course, the hobby of book thievery.

The story is set in Nazi Germany, during the World War II at the time of Holocaust.

Fevre Dream: A Classic Vampire Tale

Fevre Dream
by George R. R. Martin

FevreDream

This George R. R. Martin’s vampire tale of blood, gore, loyalty, and friendship is considered a classic by many readers, comparable to that of Anne Rice’s works. With the popularity of his A Song of Ice and Fire, reading this book, which by the way had stood on my shelf unread for quite some time, is something that I just had to do. And so, finally, I did.

perks_of_being_a_wallflower_book_cover The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a coming of age novel about 15 year old Charlie who is about to enter high school as a freshman, alone and without any friend. His only friend, Michael, has committed suicide before the school year starts. Now that’s quite different for a beginning of a book isn’t it? The entire book is basically Charlie’s letters to an anonymous person, a stranger. He writes these letters so he can cope with all the stress and anxiety of being alone, of being different, of being strange in the eyes of the people around him, of being a wallflower. Anne of Green Gables: A Refreshing Tale for Children of All Ages :)

Anne of Green Gables
by L. M. Montgomery
First Published June 1908Image

A young orphan, Anne Shirley, was sent to live in Prince Edward Island to accompany an old brother and sister Cuthberts and help in their farm in Green Gables. Anne, along with her constant gaiety, endless enthusiasm about wonderful infinite list of things, and unzipping mouth, makes her own tales of adventure in Green Gables.

This series by L. M. Montgomery is a dear favorite. Anne of Green Gables might just be my all time favorite book. And I have read this book when I was already out of college. The messages and little tales in the book are refreshing, some are profound and so many are widely entertaining. I have never loved a heroine so much as I did with Anne Shirley. She opened my eyes to an awful lot of wonderful things I have never thought existed before.

5/5 for everything 🙂

Harry Potter: Perfection

Harry Potter Series

An orphan boy who lives under a cupboard finds himself to be a wizarding student in the school of Hogwarts.

There is nothing more I can say. This particular series has taken over much of my late childhood and early teenage years and it is amazing. I love so many characters in this series and I love them still.

5/5, forever and always.
