Harold Crick is an auditor of Internal Revenue Services. He lives his life guided by his wristwatch, timing everything he does, counting how many strokes of brush he makes when he brushes his teeth, counting the steps he makes as he crosses the street, and etc.

Not until one Wednesday, when something strange happened. As he does his routine, a voice suddenly spoke, a strange woman’s voice which talks whenever he does his routine, describing exactly what he was doing, as if she’s narrating what’s happening in his day, his story, his life. He doesn’t believe that he’s with a mental illness, so he visited a literature expert so he can know if this strange narration of his life that he’s literally hearing, is a comedy, or a tragedy.

What made me watch this film is its unique and interesting plot. What would you do if something like this happened to you? I will immediately think I’m going insane and then I’ll just drink whatever medication prescribed to me. But that’s in real life. In fiction, we have this. Stranger than Fiction. A really interesting, funny, whimsical, and somehow, touching film.

The theme is basically about the never ending topic on fate and living. When you know your life is going to end anytime soon, what would you do? Would you try to stop it? Or would you enjoy the remaining days of your life and make sure you accomplish everything you’ve ever wanted?

Will Ferrell as an actor in a drama role is quite refreshing. And I think he did well in the film. And Emma Thompson as the writer is great as well. I loved her tiny gestures and the way she showed how she does her writing job, imagining the scenes of the story, was interesting.

3.3/5
