His only friend, Michael, has committed suicide before the school year starts. Now that’s quite different for a beginning of a book isn’t it? The entire book is basically Charlie’s letters to an anonymous person, a stranger. He writes these letters so he can cope with all the stress and anxiety of being alone, of being different, of being strange in the eyes of the people around him, of being a wallflower. A teenage girl with a reality that sucks for her, always spends her time in her daydreams and love of books and fictional stories. One day when Sarah, the girl, got fed up with babysitting her little baby brother, she wished with all her heart, using the lines of a story, that her brother will be gone forever. Little did she know, the King of Goblins in a different world is listening to her and so, he granted her wish. Jareth, the King of Goblins, kidnapped her baby brother and brought him to his kingdom where he plans to make the baby his heir to the throne. Sarah, however, did not expect such things to happen so when Jareth came to her, she told him she wants her brother back. Jareth then took Sarah to his world and showed her the view of his castle. He said she may take his brother back, only if she’s able to get to his castle, which is at the end of a huge and complicated labyrinth, in about 13 hours.

Without any delay, Sarah went straight to entering the labyrinth where she had a unique, a bit scary, and very dangerous adventure to enter Jareth’s castle and take her brother back home with her.

Kimi ni Todoke: Love is Most Beautiful When Pure

Kimi ni Todoke

Alt. Title: From me to You
Shoujo Manga by Karuho Shiina
Released 2006

Kimi ni Todoke is about the strange, ghostly teenage high school student Kuronuma Sawako. She is a quiet person, has a long hair and often, if not always, seen by her classmates as ghost, thus her nickname Sadako. Some of her classmates even thought “Sadako” is her real name and she really is a ghost. The beginning of the story is quite funny as she was imagined by her classmates as someone so scary.

Sawako has always been alone because of this little social problem but it soon faded as she got into friendship with the two slightly delinquent girls of her class. It soon went forgotten when the rest of the class start to notice her and see her as a studious, quiet but kind, and really industrious classmate.

Meanwhile, there is one guy in the room who has never seen Sawako as someone strange and scary. Kazehaya, a ‘refreshing’ guy, and good looking too, always greets herr by her real name ‘Sawako’. He always smiles and very jolly and kind towards his classmates. He had a problem though. Inside himself lies a secret admiration for Sawako.

The manga is the story of how Sawako finds friendship and love in high school. Sawako and Kazehaya’s feelings for each other is one that’s pure, innocent and so refreshing. All the tiny moments can make you teary eyed and fly in pleasant fuzzy feelings. The story lines of the other characters are very interesting as well.

I started this story through the anime series but later turned to the manga for updates.

I highly recommend this for all young ladies. 4/5 🙂

The Vampire Diaries: Don’t Ever Watch This Show

The Vampire Diaries

Developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec on CW
Based on the book series by L. J. Smith
2009
Currently on Season 4

Image

The Vampire Diaries is a story of an orphan human teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire, and then things happened. When I say ‘things’, I meant painful, hurtful, romantic, painful, crazy, wonderful, painful, insane, hateful, maddening, painful things. A lot of them. So if you don’t ever want to experience so much pain, do not watch this show.

This is set in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

***Spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned. Also, if you’re not watching the show, you might not understand lots of what you’re going to read next***

Anne of Green Gables: A Refreshing Tale for Children of All Ages :)

Anne of Green Gables
by L. M. Montgomery
First Published June 1908Image

A young orphan, Anne Shirley, was sent to live in Prince Edward Island to accompany an old brother and sister Cuthberts and help in their farm in Green Gables. Anne, along with her constant gaiety, endless enthusiasm about wonderful infinite list of things, and unzipping mouth, makes her own tales of adventure in Green Gables.

This series by L. M. Montgomery is a dear favorite. Anne of Green Gables might just be my all time favorite book. And I have read this book when I was already out of college. The messages and little tales in the book are refreshing, some are profound and so many are widely entertaining. I have never loved a heroine so much as I did with Anne Shirley. She opened my eyes to an awful lot of wonderful things I have never thought existed before.

5/5 for everything 🙂

Harry Potter: Perfection

Harry Potter Series
Written by J. K. Rowling
First Published 1997

 hp

An orphan boy who lives under a cupboard finds himself to be a wizarding student in the school of Hogwarts.

There is nothing more I can say. This particular series has taken over much of my late childhood and early teenage years and it is amazing. I love so many characters in this series and I love them still.

5/5, forever and always.

A very famous young adult novel, this trilogy is set in the dystopian nation of Panem where a game, called The Hunger Games, is done annually. The so called game is a battle of survival among the contestants, who can either be teenagers or children, coming from each of the twelve districts of Panem. During the game, these kids fight off one another until only one remains. The story basically is set on that plot in the voice of a 16 year old volunteer Katniss Everdeen from District 12.
